This week Lauren and I spent a lot of time going from one set of scripts to another set of scripts the next day. We had some new scripts this week with very little time to truly rehearse them. On top of lacking time to rehearse, I was majorly lacking a voice. The week’s challenge: how do you talk for a full day when you can barely talk at all? and how can you tell a story without time to rehearse that story fully?

Somehow it all fell into place, and my voice managed to slip into character voices loud enough to be understood in big classrooms. Lauren and I are developing a strong partnership and looking forward to the adventures ahead where perhaps we will both have strong voices.

This past Friday was my first time teaching for CLIMB and boy it was one to remember. We experienced an insane amount of traffic due to a mixture of weather and multiple accidents along the interstate, which caused us to get off to a bit of a late start, but we persevered! Though the morning felt a bit rushed, and we had a lock-down student in the second class, it was evident in the students answers that they understood all about our important topic of Empathy. Challenge Accepted I’d say!

This week started off with a bang with the AH project and it went swimmingly. I was really proud of the work that my team did and it was exciting to finally have it up on its feet. From the immediate feedback it seemed as though the teachers and the anti-bullying task force were really pleased with the work that we did. It was truly exciting! Later on in the week Caitlyn and I got back to Booster Bits and had two great days of programming. Lets see what this week brings!

A snow delay and a monkey

These past two days mark my first experience working with CLIMB, as well as working with my team lead Lauren. We spent our two days experiencing an unexpected delay, big classes in a music room equipped with a blow up monkey in the corner, free lunches both days, well-behaved classes, and plenty of funny and adorable children. Though we were doing scripts about Empathy, bullying came up frequently. Whether it be a child saying “standing up for bullying” as a way to show your empathy of “The Clam Song” in the Music Room. (Which made me think immediately of “it’s important to be a clam…” in one of the bullying scripts) We both had a great time out of town and I, personally, found the two days to be a great first experience teaching.

This week we had the pleasure to be back with the little ones again with doing classes on recycling in North St. Paul. I had forgotten how much I love working with the younger students because the energy is so wonderful. We had a wonderful time and had great responses from the teachers!! We also went back to middle school where we taught classes on Cyberbullying. Again this was a new script for myself so it was fun to learn something and to watch the kids play Circle of Doom! it is too funny sometimes. WE are down to one our last weeks!!

This was our first week back in the classrooms and it felt good to be back. Caitlyn and I were very busy and we had some really successful programing. We managed to get three support letters this week, which was VERY exciting. I’m very excited for this upcoming week with the AH project. Should be great!

Well, this will probably be my last post of the year!

This past week, I was in Team Lead training, getting ready for this coming week! I have learned a lot, and feel that I’m ready for the added responsibility.

Also, This week I worked on programming with Lauren, and found that our energy was completely different from when I was working with Elia. We did have one cute moment, where we were performing Manuflack, and the student we called up to hide the Manuflack was named Duncan, so we were calling him King Duncan. For those of you who are Shakespeare nerd like I am, you will appreciate this…

A week with Gnomes!

This week my partner and I were at two schools doing classes on Gateway Drugs!! The students were delightful and were very participatory!! WE really enjoyed ourselves especially with our two six grade classes they were a delight at Dawson Boyd!!! We also had the pleasure of staying in Dawson where there is a Gnome park and that was adorable!!! That is all folks!

Last week for the semester

So this week was both exciting and sad. We have seen a whole semester come and go in what seems like no time. It was exciting this week to see the growth people have made from our first day to now. It was also very sad to say good-bye to our dear friends Victor and Steph, they will be missed! Caitlyn and I had JAF again this week and it was our most successful visit yet. We also had Booster Bits twice, including a community event with people who spoke no english, so we had translators. Now we are on to our next semester and Anoka-Hennepin. Hoping for the best and excited to see how the week goes! Happy Holidays everyone!
